Review: It takes two to tango: Van Gogh and Kathryn Flocken! What a delight! Van Gogh has darkened the colors of the original painting by Hiroshige, and added a green border with red Chinese characters, and this frame gives the impression of looking through a window, and you are peering into it. Very meta. The matte finish of the image blends perfectly with the wooden material, as if it was directly painted onto it. The puzzle itself is a beautiful object per se, it has an antique look. And as for the pieces, kudo to Kathryn Flocken! How does her mind work? "Dragons? Sure! Koi fish? Absolutely! Cats? Always a good choice! Let's throw an octopus and some Chinese clouds on top of that. And a sumo. And a stumping leg-thingy. Snowflakes, yeah! A phoenix, definitely!" The crazy thing is that it would seem very obvious to find the pieces that frame these odd-looking pieces, right? But no, (well, not for me) because Kathryn Flocken divides the surrounding spaces in such a way that it is not as easy to recognize them. That keeps you on your toes till the end. The good thing is that she made the cogs of the wheel shapes fit only a certain way, that's a relief, which is a clear proof of the precision cut of the pieces. This puzzle scream excellent craftsmanship on all levels. Once I finished it, I wanted to redo it all over to experience the same fun again.

Review: As i handle the pieces, finding connections and gradually constructing the scene, my mood becomes both contemplative and eager, a true beginner's mind. Who knew puzzles could be meditation aids? Artifact, you never cease to amaze me! This one is mostly straightforward, so a fairly gentle puzzling experience, while still super satisfying to complete. I also love this puzzle because the colors and tone of the painting draw me into the atmosphere of the image, no matter the season. In the summer when it's too hot to be outside, the watery scene feels like a refreshing oasis. On a cold rainy day, the reminder that the rain is outside while i'm in here, along with the warm depth of the border colors make for a cozy experience.

Review: I confess I am a fan of all things Van Gogh—or, as he is known here in Louisiana, Van Geaux—but this painting and the cut of the puzzle are mesmerizing. It feels like an ancient treasure chest. Colors and cut are beautiful. Not too difficult.

Review: This is a relatively easy puzzle to do because of the many linear elements and the distinct color separation. (About 2 hours of pleasure!) The Japanese-inspired whimsies are fascinating. Fun to do and beautiful to look at when completed.
