Review: The small size of this puzzle and its low count of pieces are deceiving: it will keep you happily busy. The naive painting is paired with complex shapes for the pieces. I think there are three whimsies (amongst them, one contains what the image depicts, I love that kind of meta *wink*), and lots of fleur-de-lis kind of shapes that mirror a starry effect. It's a perfect puzzle if you don't have much time but still want something complex enough.

Review: I love Gerard's puzzles, though this is the only one I've worked. I'd say this puzzle is a little harder than average, because of the stripes going every which way, the different roof designs and angles, the differing doors. Yet the outdoor light fixtures are all the same, adding consistency, and some of the same colors appear in various places. And I like the cat in the window, probably wishing she were out hunting a mouse. Gerard's puzzles are themselves always whimsical, adding to the fun.

Review: I work with a group who loves wood puzzles, and puts them together without looking at the box. In this case, "Dusk" doesn't tell us much about what the picture will look like, which adds to the challenge. Normally we put the puzzles together on a large sheet of white mat. I didn't realize how much that helps until I did this one on my own after we'd done it together. I used two dark cookie sheets. That made it much harder, especially since some of the pieces are dark. This isn't a complaint, as I still loved doing it. The whimsical painting appealed to me; I love all of Artifact's Gerard puzzles, though this is our first. The variety in the roof patterns, the stripes going in different directions, and the background in slightly different shades, add to the fun. Some of the pieces are very tiny, some a bit larger. Some are identical but just because they fit doesn't mean they're "right." You have to check the pattern as well as the fit. The cats in windows, the crow on the roof, and the old-fashioned street lights all add to the charm. A very satisfying puzzle.
