When I first ran across Artifact Puzzles online nearly five years ago (accidentally, I might add), I got this terrible itch to try one ... just one. I am not normally much of a puzzler and find 500 or 1,000 piece cardboard puzzles with the usual cookie cutter puzzle pieces incredibly boring. They hold no charms for me at all. But something about the idea of wooden pieces and interesting shapes drew me in ... just one try. So I thought best to start with something small - not break the bank, you know, if it didn't go well. So Varangian was it. My first one. The tactility of the pieces is wonderful and I love finding where the whimsy pieces fit in the picture. This is art within art. A beautiful picture plus the art of the cut. I absolutely LOVE these puzzles. So does my family - I have to keep an eye on my husband because he'll be drawn in to a partially-completed puzzle and start working away at it without me. Even the kids are drawn in as if by a magnet. So yes, Artifact puzzles are the "go to" now when my family is shopping for a birthday or Christmas gift for me and I am up to eight so far with a few more on the wish list. Another plus - these puzzles are so much more interesting than standards that they are fun to do again and again. And Varangian doesn't take too long and isn't too challenging (at least compared to other Artifact puzzles), so not a huge time commitment. Also fun to do with a friend. Thanks, Varangian, for being a wonderful first puzzle choice and getting me hooked!
