This is a 317 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle of the famous painting "Netherlandish Proverbs" from 1559 by Pieter Brueghel the Elder. It illustrates over 50 Netherlandish proverbs, from "Big fish eat little fish," to "The herring hangs by its own gills." The puzzle comes with a visually-keyed legend to the proverbs (in English and German). Our puzzle has a grid of square pieces with interspersed themed whimsies (click on the little picture below the puzzle image to see example pieces). This puzzle has a straight edge but is harder than average. All our puzzles are laser-cut from 1/4" wood and made in USA. This puzzle is packaged in our standard wide wooden box.

A guide to the proverbs is provided in English and German with a numbered picture. A great idea! Many errors, however, and as a former German speaker it was fun to go through and make corrections.
