Artifact Puzzles - Kevin Sloan Burden of Formality Wooden Jigsaw Puzzle

$ 100.00

This is a 432 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle of Kevin Sloan's painting titled "Burden of Formality." The painting is a twist on a similar classic image by John James Audubon. The puzzle pieces were designed by Tara Flannery, and were inspired by the decorations of the Taj Mahal. The puzzle has a decorative irregular edge, and many whimsy pieces shaped like birds, teapots, and other British India inspired shapes. The puzzle connector shapes are varied and also inspired by the decorations of the Taj Mahal. Click on the small image under the product image to see example pieces. Like all our puzzles, the pieces are laser-cut from 1/4" thick wood. Packaged in our standard pine wood box. Made in USA.

Review: A masterpiece of puzzle-making! It takes cutting to a new level. Not only is the art charming and the shape pieces apt, but the cutting itself forms a beautiful pattern. Assembling this puzzle was a voyage of discovery. Highly recommended for the puzzler who thinks he/she has seen everything!.

Review: Kevin Sloan’s illustrations are so very lovely. I think we own all of the collaborations between Artifact Puzzles and Mr. Sloan. As this puzzle unfolds, you may find yourself paying less attention to the actual art—as captivating and whimsical as it might be—and more to the underlying meta structure of the puzzle. It’s magic! Just extraordinary.

Review: We love the entertaining and unusual creations offered by artist Kevin Sloan - this puzzle was a delicious challenge! Piecing together background of clouds and sky took some time and serious focus, but no less pleasant than assembling the tottering teacups or the elegant bird. We were amazed at how the geometric connectors managed to fit in with the sweet array of whimsy pieces.The edge is clever and itself an element of beauty. It's an extraordinary design by one of my Artifact favorites, Tara Flannery. If you haven't tried other Artifact puzzles by Ms. Flannery,do yourself a favor and explore her offerings. You will know the feeling of working a puzzle which is an art object itself!

Review: Having done this brilliant and beautiful puzzle a few times, I cannot help but believe that Gandhi himself would have been pleased with this tribute to the British Raj (England's occupation of India) and the storied struggle to evolve it to Swaraj (self-rule).
