This is an amazing 165 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle of an imaginary space scene by the artist-couple APAK titled "Islands of Life." The puzzle design by Tara Flannery echoes the painting with organic plant shaped pieces, space whimsy pieces, a few drop-out pieces, and a themed irregular edge. The difficulty is harder than average. Like all our puzzles, laser-cut from 1/4" thick wood. Packaged in our standard pine wood box. Made in USA.

Although it took less than two hours to complete, I enjoyed finding the image immensely. Challenging but not hard. Will love to add more to my collection

This was our first puzzle from artifact. The island of life is fun and whimsical. We purchased the puzzle not knowing it had an irregular edge or dropout pieces! Though we quickly realized this, it made the puzzle even more difficult at first. The organic shapes and edge mimicking parts of the wonderful APAK image made us marvel over the creativity of master puzzle designer Tara Flannery. The high quality of the puzzle and box, insures this piece will be passed on to the next generation.

This is one of those puzzles that's almost as much fun to do wood-side up as image-side up, thanks to the complex irregular border and wildly creative piece shapes. I love some of the subtler whimsies, like the multi-piece sun behind the ringed planet and the dog in her space helmet (though I admit thinking about Laika always makes me tear up a bit). There is a lot of black, but the cut is varied enough that I never felt stuck or frustrated by false fits. At this price and piece count, I'd call this a good starter puzzle for showing somewhat what wooden puzzles can do better than cardboard.
