This 81 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle is challenging because the puzzle is cut so that any two pieces can fit together, and there are a number of false edge and corner pieces which makes it a challenging puzzle for its size (click on the small image below the big image above to see example puzzle pieces). The dragon was created by Japanese woodblock artist Hokusai, we believe around 1830. This puzzle has a straight edge. All our puzzles are made with 1/4" thick wood in the USA. Packaged in a small box with a magnetic clasp. Warning: puzzle pieces are a choking hazard for small children.

Review: Delightful! surrounded by storm-tossed waves, a Reptilian beast with Adorable eyes floats in a Gem-colored sea of ruby red. Only 81 pieces yet still challenging and entertaining, i have No hesitation in recommending this charming little puzzle!
Review: Great fun! Had a lot of fun the next day doing an inside out version! Thanks for the great diversion.
Review: I hadn't done a jigsaw puzzle in a long time, and decided to start with this because I loved the image of the dragon, and because it was small. Though Hokusai Dragon has only 81 pieces, I found it challenging -- so many pieces fit nicely together, but don't belong together; and many others have straight edges, tempting the puzzler to lay them out as the perimeter -- but many of those pieces are intended for the center of the puzzle. Adding to the challenge are the twists and turns of the dragon's coils, and the sometimes very subtle color variations. The only flaw I would note is that when you discover you have put together two or three pieces that don't belong together, the fit of the pieces is so fine that you risk upending all the pieces around your error in order to undo it.
Review: I can see why this 9 x 9 piece (81 total) puzzle is right up there amoung the favorites of Artifact Puzzlers! Once again, with my trusty magnifying glass I began to attack the dragon. Sometimes, only the tiniest piece of the Dragon's talon was my only clue to correct placement. This puzzle would be extremely difficult to do without looking at the picture, especially difficult because of the number of edge pieces that DO NOT go on the edges. This puzzle, in my opinion, is best purchased in your early adventures with Artifact Puzzles. Definitely a must have for your collection AND a great gift to introduce your puzzler or cerebral friends to Artifact Puzzles. Build time is around 2-4 hours.
Review: Harder than most Hokusai--no Mt. Futi to center you. Also, many ostensible edge pieces, so if you begin by looking for edge pieces that can fool you too. I understand the puzzle creator began with the unique parts, like the head, and unique waves in the corners, and created the puzzle around those. This is definitely not the calm red dragon from my Mah Jongg set, but will continue to be fun over many plays
