This 254 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle features one of Los Angeles artist Joe Vaux's paintings with his characteristic nature-gone-wild flair. Joe Vaux also designed the sea monster whimsy pieces (click on the small image below the big image above to see example puzzle pieces). This is a fun puzzle to do with family or a group of friends, or just relaxing on your own (difficulty rating: average). This puzzle has a straight edge. All our puzzles are made of layers of hard and soft woods and are roughly 1/4" thick in the USA. This puzzle comes packaged in our standard unfinished pine wooden box. Warning: puzzle pieces are a choking hazard for small children.

To observe that any Joe Vaux art work is weird is redundant. This puzzle made from his art work is no less weird. It does however have a regular border so I started that first and then started sorting by sky color working from top to bottom.
It scares me that I personally find his work so interesting. I finished in one 2.5 hr sitting.
In my experience this puzzle was up to the best Artifact standards. I had great fun with this puzzle.

I sometimes really have to laugh at the inner conversation I have going when I’m solving a puzzle; often it’s about describing a shape I need and goes something like “Look for a big claw; round on the top, pointy on the bottom” (Unseen) or “I need a big-curvy-brown-stripy thing” (Big Bank Robbery). One of the funniest things I caught myself repeating was “Look for the pastel ones” while solving Fishing Village. Though it may at first seem counterintuitive, this tender tale of familial love does indeed contain a number of pastel pieces! There is a lot of paradox here.
This was the first puzzle I felt compelled to flip over and examine from the back side (a practice I’ve embraced that helps me pick out elements I sometimes miss topside). The cut for this puzzle with whimsy pieces designed by Vaux is a riotous study in fishy chaos, full of all manner of ocean-gone-wild. Joe Vaux tells a great story, Artifact designs uniquely artistic puzzles keyed to their subjects; together they are a brilliant pairing. So fun.
