This is a 432 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle of Kevin Sloan's painting titled "Burden of Formality." The painting is a twist on a similar classic image by John James Audubon. The puzzle pieces were designed by Tara Flannery, and were inspired by the decorations of the Taj Mahal. The puzzle has a decorative irregular edge, and many whimsy pieces shaped like birds, teapots, and other British India inspired shapes. The puzzle connector shapes are varied and also inspired by the decorations of the Taj Mahal. The puzzle is harder than average. Like all our puzzles, the pieces are laser-cut from 1/4" thick wood. Packaged in our standard pine wood box. Made in USA.

Review: We have been eyeing this puzzle for quite some time and a friend so graciously sent it to us to work. What a beautiful puzzle! This might be our favorite from all the artifacts we've worked. A bit more challenging due to the irregular border but not super hard. Gorgeous image!

Review: Agree with others that Tara Flannery puzzle cut patterns are really enjoyable and clever. Sometimes you think the edge of a piece will have to match the same color as another but really the cuts have been cleverly placed to make it a little more challenging. I particularly love the contrast of patterns of tea cups with the more organic patterns of the bird feathers. Plus the idea of how we are burdened with formality and the silliness of its literal depiction in the subject matter is fun to think about. I thought it worked well putting it together with another person.

Review: We loved this puzzle!! We have over 40 Artifact/Ecru puzzles, and this one is definitely one of our very favorites. Kevin Sloan's artwork is so lovely, colorful, and full of fun. To this you add the puzzle-designing genius of Tara Flannery, and you have a real "piece de resistance"! The individual pieces are cut beautifully and fit together in very unique and creative ways. We found the puzzle to be very tricky to put together; so, we were excited by the challenge it presented and delighted by our moments of success. It was an adventure of pure fun, never frustrating; we think we will try another Sloan/Flannery creation for our next challenge! In the meantime, we recommend "Burden of Formality" to you for an amazing puzzling experience.

Review: A masterpiece of puzzle-making! It takes cutting to a new level. Not only is the art charming and the shape pieces apt, but the cutting itself forms a beautiful pattern. Assembling this puzzle was a voyage of discovery. Highly recommended for the puzzler who thinks he/she has seen everything!.

Review: Kevin Sloan’s illustrations are so very lovely. I think we own all of the collaborations between Artifact Puzzles and Mr. Sloan. As this puzzle unfolds, you may find yourself paying less attention to the actual art—as captivating and whimsical as it might be—and more to the underlying meta structure of the puzzle. It’s magic! Just extraordinary.
