Review: I love this artifact puzzle because of the hidden winter scene within the puzzle. I didn’t see it until I had finished the puzzle. The snowmen are my favorite part. It’s definitely worth the effort of putting this larger puzzle together to see the hidden treasure within the puzzle. A perfect puzzle for long winter nights! My favorite artifact puzzle.

Review: Angie Rees - The Skating Party If one considers the structural difference between a novel and a short story, the longer novel gives the author much more canvas to develop characters and sub plots. This puzzle is like a novel with all the advantages of size exploited to the fullest potential. It stands as a scathing indictment of 1000, 2000, 5000 piece puzzles that have nothing interesting to say. Not counting the six or so snowflakes; I can’t count all the whimsical pieces. And the whimsical pieces are not one whimsical piece but clever assemblages of 10-20 pieces; puzzles each a sub-puzzle with distinct shape and connector styles. To call this a three ring circus would be an underestimate by an order of magnitude. I’m not being critical, this is my pure envy. 502 pieces is way too much freedom to give a truly creative soul bursting with divine inspiration. I got suckered into this. With too large a puzzle I risk my large puppy will consider the puzzle an hors d’ oeuvre platter any time my back is turned. I reasoned I could keep my guard up and cast my fate to the winds. I had wild bumpy ride. This is the largest wooden jigsaw puzzle I own, it is a big job taking me 6.5 hours solo over three sittings. One could invite a whole family and work the puzzle as a crew, there is so much going on at one time. Like many things in life, this puzzle makes much more sense in retrospect. One can see all the patterns and zones and how it all works together harmoniously. It is entertaining, once finished to go back and pick out cute design features. For example all the bear whimsical assemblages have a distinctive “shaggy” connector motif. That helps, sorta, and to a very limited degree. Get your thinking cap on because you will need to employ every nuanced hint provided. First impressions amount to: “This will not be too hard.” You have only 6 penguins with different color sweaters; I can do this no problem. The snow-flake shaped whimsical pieces are critical to finishing the lavender sky. Then the entire blue pond is devious in the extreme perhaps requiring at least half the build time. It hides several large scale assemblages each with their own rules. In my Irish family if one is not being teased they are considered neglected. Purchase this puzzle for someone feeling neglected. After a full day’s worth of torture they will know you love them. RE: “I love artifact puzzles and their whimsical pieces. I bought this for my daughter-in-law is pregnant with their fourth child. No doubt she will love it!” I hope she is in her 1st or 2nd trimester. This puzzle can take a while. If playing Mozart while pregnant makes a baby a genius. Playing this puzzle while pregnant should produce an Einstein with a pacifier. Hold the warm milk please, pass the quadratic equations.

Review: It has been a family tradition to get a new Artifact puzzle, or two, at Christmas. This is perhaps the quintessential Christmas gift puzzle, large enough for the whole family, incredibly bright and cheery, and, for us, spending two weeks on a remote frozen lake in Canada, completely "on theme." The image is fun! The whimsies and design, however, are brilliant, amazing, clever, varied, filled with surprises. They are puzzles within the puzzle. I try not to look too closely at the image before I start working on it, to make the puzzle more challenging, later I will look at it much more closely, noting the story told by the whimsies, and how various "chunks of the puzzle" connect. I was born and raised in California, but married a Canadian, and our family always spends two weeks, or so, in Canada each Christmas- sleighing, ice skating, skiing, playing, building snow forts. There are techniques in Canada for teaching kids how to ice-skate and so fun to see them in this delightful image, bringing back memories of teaching the young ones how to skate! Due to its sheer size, this puzzle does take awhile to put together, but it isn't very hard, and it is great fun for everyone!

Review: Loved "The Skating Party"! The past couple of years "Santa" has ingeniously gifted our family with an amazing puzzle to do during our precious and limited fireside family time during the holidays. You know, before the insanity of school and work take hold again in the new year. You honestly can't find a nicer way to just "be" together than this. The Skating Party art itself has great appeal across all ages and was lots of fun with the usual whimsies. But man, I LOVE finding the extra challenges and surprises that take puzzling to the next level - there is definitely one here! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Keep the best puzzles in the world coming our way! Oh, and the other puzzle "Santa" recently left with our stockings was "Santa Claus Delivery" by Iwona Lifsches - another adorable winter winner.
