Last month we ran a poetry contest for kennings for a jigsaw puzzle. A kenning is a tiny poem, often just two words, that can replace a noun. For example, "click bait" is a kenning for a sensational headline, and "pencil pusher" is a kenning for an office worker.
We received over 100 fantastic entries for kennings to mean jigsaw puzzle. Our panel of 5 judges (of professional writers & creatives) chose the following winners for the best kennings to describe a jigsaw puzzle:
1st Place: pieceful pastime by S. Blumberg
2nd Place: tessellation tango by J. Munro
- crenellated conundrum by K. Walcott
- painting's prism by Grace & Amber
- bits of broken wonder crying out to become whole again by J. Farnham
- scattered symphony of colors by D. Bizzle
Thanks everyone who entered their delightful turns of phrase!
May your days be filled with poetry and puzzles!
Bit late to this, but I propose: “assembly desired” (ha!)
These are really well-done. My entries didn’t win but I have to agree these are all better! Nice to be part of such a brilliant community!
It was great fun to learn about this creative form of word play. Thank you so much!
