This is a 422-piece wooden jigsaw puzzle of one of John James Audubon's most famous illustrations, the Carolina Parakeets. Now extinct, these parakeets were once relatively common in South Carolina.

Puzzle design by Maria Berg includes parakeet whimsy pieces (click on the small photos underneath the puzzle image to see example pieces and our wood box).

This puzzle has a straight edge, but is harder than average.

The original Audubon illustration has a plain background; we have taken the liberty of placing Audubon's parakeets on a blue Venetian sky painted by Francesco Guardi.

Like all our puzzles, laser-cut in the USA of 1/4" wood, and packaged in a pine wood box.

Review: A beautifully designed big puzzle that kept me thinking there were missing pieces until the end. Actually this one didn’t interest me when it first came out. I broke down and got it because, well, it was all you had in stock and I had to have a new puzzle. I didn’t expect it to be HARD and I didn’t expect it to become one of my all time favorites - meaning I’m going to be careful who I lend it to.

Review: I do not yet own the more recent Woodpecker entry, though it looks beautiful. It's only right, given Mr. Sloan's humorous nod to Audubon, that the classic painter of old be well represented among Arttifact's puzzles. Carolina Parakeets is a beautiful painting and Maria Berg, as usual, designs a creative and challenging cut. Lovely.

Review: I would rate this puzzle as "really hard" (that's a good thing). I have completed the Carolina Parakeets puzzle probably a dozen times over the past year using different strategies and there are still parts of it that slow me down. It's a lot of fun and I find the colors inspiring. My dogs love it, too. They appreciate the crunchiness of the pieces.

Review: This puzzle is what I'd call a very typical Artifact--small, geometrically shaped pieces, with surprising connectors related to the puzzle theme (here, birds). In a pinch, you can use the connectors to find pieces that match up. Very enjoyable, and probably a good puzzle to give an Artifact newbie so they can see what Artifact has to offer that's distinctive.

Review: The colorful parakeets make for a fun, challenging puzzle. Each piece is unique. I also love the whimsy pieces. The latest time that I completed this puzzle, I couldn't find the final edge piece until I was on the last 60 pieces. I enjoy all of my Artifact Puzzles. My family and I enjoy each puzzle multiple times with other Artifact Puzzles in between.
