Artifact Puzzles - Bruegel Triumph Of Death Wooden Jigsaw Puzzle

$ 80.00

This is a macabre 361 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle of "Triumph of Death" by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The design by Chandler Millwood will besiege you with macabre whimsies trapped in a solid wall of tesselated pieces resembling castle fortifications and onion domes. Despite its grim theme, it shouldn't be hard enough to make you cry (harder than average difficulty rating).

Warning: this painting has some pretty horrific details, and we have designed some "dark" whimsies capturing humanity's existential pain - please do NOT choose this if you are looking for positive energy! Probably not appropriate for all ages!

Like all our puzzles, made with 1/4" thick wood and the pieces are laser-cut. Packaged in our standard pine wood box. Made in the USA.

11" by 15.5"

Manufacturer recommended age: 15 years and up

Review: In the interests of full disclosure I must confess my great interest and appreciation of the paintings of Bruegel and Bosch, so I admit to great bias in favor of this painting as a work of art. I can certainly understand though that many people do not share my enthusiasm for this artistic style and would never consider buying such a puzzle, but they would probably never bother to read a review of it either. So, putting my detached observer hat on, here are my observations. As a puzzle it’s pretty easy. It took me 3:18:42 to do it without looking at the picture. I thought at first all the pointy pieces could make for difficulties but it basically just fell together. There are some pieces that seem to fit together but the error is pretty obvious. I did notice that my copy was not quite perfectly cut. Here were no pieces that hadn’t separated but there were maybe half a dozen pieces with very tiny spurs that interfered with the fit. These were easily scraped away with a fingernail, but I haven’t noticed this on any other of my Artifact puzzles. This is my first one shipped with their new practice of not having a picture on the box cover, which I find pretty neat. The sticker that you can apply to the cover comes underneath the pieces in the box. If you just turn the box over to dump them out the picture wIll be on top of the pile but face down so you don’t have to see it if you don’t want to. I gave it only 4 stars because it was easier than I prefer and there were the slightly imperfect cutting problems.
