Kickstarter is a website where you can support random people's random projects by investing tiny ($5-$500) amounts in their dreams.
You usually get paid back in-kind with a copy of whatever product they are trying to make. It's crowd-sourced venture capital. We heard one report (unverified) that kickstarter now supports more arts than the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
