Interview with Night Ship artist Nadiezda

One of our newest and most popular puzzles is the Night Ship by young Mexican artist Nadiezda (pictured below).

Artifact Puzzles: Tell us about this image - what inspired it, what is it about?

Nadiezda: It is a place that you can only go in your dreams, a world of your own.

Artifact Puzzles: What art and artists have inspired your art and why?

Nadiezda: Syzslo and Betteo. I was inspired by their use of color and their cubismish art style.
Szyslo and Betteo.
[Ed. Note: She's referring to Peruvian painter Fernando de Szyszlo and Mexican artist Patricio Betteo - you can check out their art on images.google.com).]

Artifact Puzzles:  You have fans from all over the world already, and stylistically you borrow from Japanese manga. Are there ways in which you feel your art is distinctly Mexican, or is that not a useful distinction?

Nadiezda: While the appereance of certain characters may be from a manga influence, there are some colors and some symbols i find to be Mexican influence. Also i'm really fond to "El día de muertos" which inspires me a lot too.
