This is a 374 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle of Edward Hopper's famous 1942 painting Nighthawks. The puzzle design by Maria Berg has lots of film-noir themed whimsy pieces (including a smoking detective and a gun), bannister-top knob connectors, and rectangular pieces. This puzzle has a straight edge and average difficulty. Like all our puzzles, laser-cut from 1/4" thick wood. Packaged in our standard wood box. Made in USA.

Very cinematographic: the format of the puzzle similar to a wide movie theater screen, whimsies referring to film noir, and image itself that goes back to a time when men casual wear was very formal. Think Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall in a color movie. The well lit diner is the center of attention that contrasts with an empty neighborhood. Four people in an aquarium, as insects attracted to the light. Nothing much going on, really. Is it the beginning or the end of a story? Doing this puzzle is like meditating on human condition. And imagining stories. And hearing sounds: the soft buzz inside the diner, the quiet outside. And what's going on inside the heads of these characters? This puzzle is very enjoyable because of its evocative power and color scheme (the green turquoise of the sidewalk as a halo around the diner, echoing the faded neon yellow inside is so yummy!), and the engineering of the pieces that adds jazz to the grid. False edge pieces, yeah, plenty, bring it on! Straight edge does not mean it's an edge piece. And bring me a cup of joe with that!

This was my first Artifact Puzzle and this was a lot of fun to assemble! The whimsies are really a treat. I enjoyed the connectors and the final is more than suitable for display. I look forward to more puzzles!

This one was fun! Super noir! I thought it was pretty hard--so much of it is extreme contrasts in dark and light. The whimsies are wonderful. It was great to study this amazing painting--by putting it together piece by piece. I never realized how much green is in it.

Really great whimsies. I found the puzzle more challenging because of the dark colors -- I had trouble distinguishing between some subtle variations, especially if the pieces were farther from me or had glare. I ended up looking at the picture a bit to figure out where the shadows went. Still, if you like this painting, you'll enjoy spending time with it and really appreciate the thematic pieces.

This classic Hoppe painting has some wonderful whimsies, which suit the middle of the night. Some go together to make larger whimsies. The clean brightness of the all-night cafe, where people gather but are still mostly isolated from each other, is a huge contrast from the darkness outside, where anything could happen, and, in the whimsies, does. This is a favorite of mine, perhaps because it was a favorite before I saw it as a puzzle, and I've already done it many times in the few months I've had it. The "black" background hasn't gotten much easier to put together, but I now know that it''s not just solid black. It's a mixture of dark colors which tell their own stories of the loneliness of the night. A delightful classic modern painting which makes a wonderful noir puzzle.
