This 263 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle is an illustration of the Battle of Mazandaran, and is part of the Hamzanama, a manuscript telling the Adventures of Hamza, the uncle of the founder of Islam, Mohammed. The Hamzanama manuscript was created during the rule of the 16th century Moghul emperor Akbar. Scholars believe the faces in the picture were scratched out at some point by iconoclasts, and then repainted in another era. The puzzle pieces evoke a geometric mosaic, and were designed by Seattle artist Maria Berg (click on the small images underneath the puzzle picture to see example pieces for this puzzle). Made in USA with 1/4" thick wood and packaged in a wood box. Warning: puzzle pieces are a choking hazard for small children.
