Review: Ok, this is my only less-than-5-star review so far and I hesitated but - this puzzle is not for everyone and the missing star is to make you stop and think. I mean, climbing half-dome isn’t for everyone either. You ought to know what you are getting yourself into. This Artifact puzzle is by far the hardest one out of a roomful I have purchased. Maybe harder than the all-green Van Gogh. I struggle to figure out why. It is I think the art itself - old fashioned, atmospheric, with muted colors and hard to see color shifts. You need daylight AND excellent artificial lighting to do this one. The natural place to start is with the sunlit areas and this took me 3-4 slogging days. This is a big puzzle and the pieces are tiny and difficult to handle for someone with calloused fingertips. Anyone with a dog, a small child, or a curious cat should not get this one - we are talking cat kibble-sized pieces most of which are kibble colored. I confess I really hated the puzzle for those 3 days but was soooo grateful for the figurals of which there are just enough to save the day. After I linked up the sunny areas I tackled the edges and suddenly it was a totally different puzzle. The pattern of the cut revealed itself and it is pure genius. The rest of the puzzle was still quite challenging but more pleasurably so. In the end I was glad I got this one. I will work it again. I think this one is a solo venture to be taken out when you have a week or so to yourself.

Review: My grandparents long ago collected the paintings of Paul Grimm, an artist who painted sets for MGM in the early days of the motion picture industry. He painted California landscapes and sold them at shows in Laguna Beach, south of Los Angeles. Naturally, Yosemite was a favorite subject of Grimm. The colors and brush strokes of Bierstadt remind me of Grimm's paintings, one of which hangs in our dining room. The colors are warm and tranquil. The puzzle cut is quite sophisticated and complex. This puzzle takes time, but the subject of the piece invites you to take your time; the landscape is indeed timeless. This puzzle, art and cut, is a treasure. This puzzle is worth every penny. It's expansive dimensions befit Yosemite.

Review: I love this image and I especially appreciate the California themed whimsy pieces. I love to hike and the whimsy pieces include a backpacker, a boot, grizzly bear, rattlesnake poised to strike and a mountain lion (which I once encountered face to face on a trail!). The colors in the sky are exquisite and it is a fun, but challenging puzzle to put together. Some of the pieces are quite small and it helps to have good lighting to see the nuanced variation in color. It has an irregular edge, which I really like. The quality can't be beat!
