This is a 143-piece puzzle of Andre Derain's 1906 painting, "Les Voiles Rouges." The Red Sails take center stage in the art, while the puzzle design by Kate Swanson includes a wide variety of oceanic whimsies and innovative piece shapes that emphasize the rest of the painting.

A very irregular edge makes the difficulty average despite the clear color zones. NOTE: The irregular edge is not shown in the image on the box!

Like all our puzzles, made with 1/4" thick wood and the pieces are laser-cut. Packaged in a small blue box with a magnetic clasp. Made in USA.

9" by 7.25"

Review: I adore Artifact puzzles. I have bought already about 50. And framed several ones. Please, give your constant customers a choice to buy a puzzle with a straight edge or waved one. I would buy more if you did not spoil some of them with the ugly edge. I was looking forward to buy "Les Voiles Rouges." Unfortunately, I was late and when I managed to buy the one it already had that "fancy" edge. A big disappointment...

Review: This is a simple looking puzzle at first glance at the image on the box. Don’t be fooled. When one empties the box of puzzle pieces all these complex wave shaped pieces roll out and you know to expect a bumpy ride. If one is accustom to nominal square shaped pieces the complex new pieces while attractive to gaze and hold will demand that you step up your game. The irregular edge along with the irregular piece shapes conspire to give no advantage to edge cheaters. A fair trade off as the many and very complex (some multi-piece) whimsical pieces both entertain and reward. I seldom elaborate about whimsical pieces but these features are nicer and more numerous than one might expect with a small wooden jigsaw puzzle. The larger a puzzle, generally the longer one requires to finish said puzzle and the greater likelihood that my 88# puppy, Alleluia, who can reach the table top will sample a few for himself. We can’t agree that a few pieces per puzzle are an acceptable loss. Negotiations continue. Thus I tend to focus on the smaller works with smaller piece counts that I can finish in one carefully guarded sitting. This puzzle is a prime example why I don’t feel limited by such constraints. While not large in extent or piece count, by any aesthetic measure this is a premium puzzle that richly rewards, plays with and teases its builder in ways that other puzzles while larger in piece count or extent could never hope to. This puzzle is jewel like in both artistic representation and design. While many will see $40 as expensive for such a small jigsaw puzzle, it is a wooden not a paper jigsaw puzzle and the quality is heirloom as opposed to disposable. It is worthy of shelf space, and worthy of doing over and over again. I might also make a quality gift, but after enjoying it myself, I now know fewer worthy friends than I first thought. If wine it would rate “Private Reserve”.
