Ecru Puzzles - Patricia Hopwood-Wade Snowbirds Wooden Jigsaw Puzzle

$ 56.00

This is a 209 piece Ecru wooden jigsaw puzzle. Our Ecru puzzles line is characterized by a closer cut and a matte finish to reduce glare. The charming image is by the world's most famous Emu painter, Tasmanian artist Patricia Hopwood-Wade. This puzzle is really hard, much harder than it looks, because the puzzle design by Martin Anderson and Jef Bambas has non-unique pieces inspired by the Hilbert curve. The Mim Time is 3 hours 40 minutes, so 63 seconds per piece. Like all our puzzles, made of 1/4" thick laser-cut wood and made in the USA. Packaged in a silver box with a magnetic clasp.

Review: This is Maya, the Owner, I don't usually write reviews, but I need to warn you that this puzzle is like a Gremlin - it looks cute but it is REALLY HARD. Like crazy hard. Yes it's only 209 pieces. Yes it's got some cute emus and looks like it should be pretty easy. But do NOT be fooled! This is one of the most frustrating puzzles we offer! When we alpha-tested it, it took around 10 man-hours (after which we made it a little easier, but it's still hard). If you get it and you get stuck, here are some tips. Tip 1: do it with a lot of bright light, ideally daylight. Tip 2: find the edge / corner pieces. Tip 3: get someone else to look at it with you to see if you put any pieces in wrong. Tip 4: sometimes you can check the back and use laser-burn marks on the back of the wood to help figure out if you have something in the right place. Tip 5: Just try putting that piece there and seeing if it feels right.

Review: BTY Snowbirds was difficult, much more so than I expected, did 3 birds and snowman in an hour, then two hours to find and fix mistakes and finish the puzzle.  Don't change it.  ;-) I do puzzles on a thinly padded felt top puzzle board, one can buy hemostats from "big river retail". Using a light touch with a hemostat makes removing a given puzzle piece from a nearly finished puzzle fabric much simpler and does no harm. The right tweezers might also work. I could see how this puzzle could be more difficult on a hard table where piece transplants requires a softer touch and more patience. This puzzle is a lot of fun, expect to make mistakes, right piece in the wrong place is the norm not the exception. Excellent lighting and an eye for the nuances of shading will win out in the end. The delightful artwork and quality manufacture of ECRU puzzles is the same very high standards we have come to expect from Artifact. Highly recommended to the confident.
