Beautiful and ChallengingNov 02, 2009
By C. Geary This is a really beautiful image for a puzzle with lots of really intricate details. The puzzle pieces are very small and unique shaped with heart and star interlocks, it includes several cute aviation-themed figurals. I thought the design of the pieces made the puzzle considerably more difficult than a traditional 300pc puzzle. Experienced puzzlers will definitely appreciate the thought that went into this design, there were quite a few cool tricks hidden in there. Trick corners, tricky edges, some color line cutting and split interlocks. This puzzle would make a great gift.
If you have ordered from them in the past Artifact has recently upgraded to a higher-quality non-chemical plywood, I was quite impressed by the improvement in the feel of the pieces. These puzzles are really the best quality you can find for the price.
Beautiful and UnusualJan 24, 2012
By Sunny Day I purchased this puzzle as a gift for an adult after reading an article about the company in the San Jose Mercury News. The workmanship of the puzzle pieces is superb and the shapes are very unusual and interesting. It came in a fancy drawstring bag which was nice since it was a gift. I haven't heard about the difficulty of the puzzle, but I'm guessing it will look as good completed as the pieces do individually. Beautiful product!
Wonderful puzzle, delightful imageNov 27, 2011
By Daniel T. Egnor Artifact Puzzles makes jigsaw puzzles from wood. They look and feel terrific; the image is printed with fine detail and coated in a glossy lacquer. The pieces have a fine fit, and they even smell like nice wood! It's hard to go back to cardboard after solving one of their puzzles.
The product image doesn't do this puzzle's art justice. What you miss are innumerable tiny details -- little dudes hanging out on all the balconies, the fine detail of the plant leaves, the brickwork in the walls and teapots. Every little bit is delightful. This was the first Artifact Puzzle I solved, and I remember it with great fondness!
One thing I enjoy about solving jigsaw puzzles is that they cause you to spend a lot of time appreciating the details of a picture. This one rewards that time -- every little balcony, staircase and balustrade is unique, and you will come to appreciate each individual masonry teapot with a palm tree growing in it.
The pieces have a nicely varied shape, and include "whimsies" -- pieces with a thematic shape. In this case the whimsies are aviation themed; you'll find pieces shaped like little airplanes, blimps, and so on.
