5This Sleeping Princess Will Keep You AwakeNov 22, 2011
By Gary L. Connely
Artifact Puzzles has turned Russian painter Viktor Vasnetsov's "Sleeping Princess" into one heck of a little jigsaw puzzle. Artifact specializes in wooden laser-cut jigsaw puzzles. Their puzzles are small - "Sleeping Princess" is only 6 by 14 inches; the soy-based inks are very bright and bold; the pictures are bonded to 1/4 inch plywood; and their laser technology produces pieces that are very precisely and intricately cut - "Sleeping Princess" includes pieces that are cut on a spiral, plus rabbits and badgers and....

With 137 pieces, "Sleeping Princess" is sort of a "mid-sized" Artifact puzzle - their small puzzles run about 80 pieces each; their large puzzles weigh in at about 300 pieces. But don't make the mistake of equating the small number of pieces with ease of assembly - even the smallest Artifact puzzles are challenging - these are not puzzles for young children. So.... "Sleeping Princess" took three adults, fueled by a couple of bottles of Selbach-Oster '09 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese, (which has nothing to do with this review, but I love writing the names of German wines), four hours to put together - actually we probably could have done it in half the time without the wine, but it wouldn't have been as much fun.

A word to those who like to use a puzzle's picture as a guide - the picture included with "Sleeping Princess" is very small - about the size of a postage stamp - and just to add a little excitement, one side, (I'm not telling you which one), is cut off....

Like most of the small and mid-size Artifact puzzles, ""Sleeping Princess" is packed in a colorful drawstring pouch.

Bottom Line: If you're into jigsaw puzzles, you owe it to yourself to try at least one Artifact puzzle....

This is such a beautiful puzzle and is small but totally worth the price. The picture is really little and is no help at all. It is the puzzle shapes that really make it a fun.

5Loved this little gem of a puzzle...Jan 19, 2012

Okay... first off I have to say that I was sooo excited to get this puzzle in the mail. The minute it came I savored it. First I just held the box in my hands, then I slowly opened it up and took the teal tissue papered treasure out. I slowly opened it up to reveal a lovely mesh drawstring package. It was smaller than I thought it would be, even though I read reviews stating that these puzzles were small.

I emptied it out onto the table and 'Wow' is all I have to say... it was so eye catchingly wonderful to just look at the pieces!!! My eyes darted from piece to piece... I picked out the little castle, the knight in shining armor.. the queen, the bear, the bunny... I placed them aside.

Then I started in on working the pieces together... it went really fast, the pieces fit perfectly.. I mean PERFECTLY!!! I was amazed at how well they slipped together, and how intricate they were. I was enjoying this... I was soooo happy I was giddy!!!

Took me about an hour to do it... I'm definitely getting the bigger puzzles next time.. and there WILL be a next time!

One thing I noticed though was... the descriptions on the site here stating that the puzzle was 6x14 inches is completely wrong. I measured the finished piece and it's about 5 1/2 by 10 1/2. A lot smaller than stated, but... I honestly don't care, it was THAT AMAZING!!!!
