| | | Description: | | We present naturalist Ernst Haeckel's 1899 illustration of 12 hummingbird species as a 262-piece puzzle. The puzzle features a smattering of themed whimsy pieces by Seattle artist Maria Berg (to see example puzzle pieces, click the small picture underneath the big picture to see). The hummingbirds illustrated are: Ruby-throated, Horned Sungem, Crimson Topaz, Red-tailed Comet, Tufted Coquette, Sword-billed, Buff-tailed Sicklebill, Dot-eared Coquette, Omismy petasophora, Hooded Visobearer, Hylocharis stokesii, and the Booted racket-tail.

High quality, unique puzzleJan 12, 2010

This was a beautiful puzzle. The photo on the box was a bit hard to use as a guide for putting the puzzle together, so if that bothers you, you should find this image on the internet and print it out in a larger size. The pieces are gorgeous and my family marveled at how incredible it was for wood to be so cleanly cut. The puzzle has an awesome quality (and smell) that you just don't see in the average paperboard puzzle these days. This made a very special gift.

We have 2 of these Artifact puzzles, and they are wonderful. The puzzles are a nice smaller size so that they don't take up a lot of room or demand that you get out the card table, and because of the smaller size they are easy to get out of the lovely packaging and do over and over again. They are beautifully and thoughtfully cut, making the putting together of these puzzles is a really nice experience. The photo accompanying the puzzle is mostly too small to use, but since the puzzles are all taken from art, you can pull up a larger photo on the internet, or perhaps have the small photo enlarged at your local copy center; I would not recommend that the company include a larger photo, as it would not fit with the packaging of these small puzzles. One suggestion: company should put their website address on the photo card - a friend was taken with one of our puzzles and looked for the address. First rate, make more please, and advertise yourself in the packaging :-)

This is a very beautifully crafted wooden puzzle. It's such an enjoyable thing to assemble them. Best for family to do together, but alwo fun just to piece them together leisurly alone. Only thing I wish is if they could provide
the names of each bird to be really educational. I would definitely purchase more wooden puzzles from Artifacts Puzzles. Just wish they make more birds puzzles for bird lovers.
I also have the same Haeckel Hummingbirds with 485 pieces 12.75"X18.5" made by "Liberty Puzzles", I'd love to recommend this one also, only because it's pieces are so aritistcally cut and more chanllege.
