| | | Description: | | This 81 piece puzzle features an illustration by Russian artist Ivan Bilibin of the bogatyr medieval knight Dobrynya Nikitich who has just conquered a dragon and saved a princess. We believe this illustration dates from roughly 1899.
The puzzle has lots of decorative whimsy pieces designed by Seattle artist Maria Berg (click on the small image below the big image above to see example puzzle pieces).
All our puzzles are made of layers of hard and soft woods, and are roughly 1/4" thick. Packaged in a sheer organza drawstring pouch.

Beautifully made, with impressive whimsiesNov 27, 2011

I bought this puzzle after enjoying several other works from Artifact Puzzles. I chose this particular puzzle because of the Bilibin illustration, which reminds me of the illustrated Russian fairy tales of my childhood. I wasn't disappointed.
The original art is reproduced faithfully, covered with a durable veneer. The whimsies are beautifully designed, cut out in striking shapes that echo those in the artwork.
As in all other puzzles I've bought from Artifact, the puzzle is well-manufactured, with the pieces accurately cut and well-fitting. The puzzle is now being passed along in my family, becoming a unique heirloom.
